What are Oil Pastels

Remember this beautiful medium of colors called oil pastels from which we were introduced in school time but most of us never could develop the interest or found them quiet hard to use? Reason being, we were never taught about this beautiful Medium properly. This is the case at least for me.

On the contrary, Oil pastels are a very easy medium to use and learn. I can give lots of pros of learning this medium if you are a beginner. Firstly, they are cheap and easily available. Secondly, they are easy to control and transport. Last but not least, they are perfect for all age groups.

Why Using Oil pastels

Unlike oil paintings, oil pastels doesn’t need any medium/solvent. Secondly, they don’t require dry time like oil paintings which takes 6 months to 1 year to dry properly. They are great to use even while travelling. Also, they are not messy medium and cheap too.
Oil pastels are a versatile medium which can be used on paper, wood and canvas. Can be used alone as well as mixed media compositions.

I started trying my hands on this medium some time back after doing RnD on it. Trying to learn them myself and made few easy paintings using them.

I made these ones on a normal drawing and sketching pad i had bought from a local shop. The problem i faced while working on this sheet of paper was blending issue and i was not able to blend the colors for long time as my hand was getting tired due to pressure i had to apply.

Then I bought these sheets from Amazon which are Bristol Ultra smooth sheets of A5 size and i can feel the difference.
