Warli Art Canvas

“The desire to create is one of the deepest yearnings of the human soul.”

Warli Art – An Intro

Warli Art, which took its name from the Warlis that is an indigeneous tribe who lives in mountains and coastal areas of Maharastra-Gujarat Border, is created by usage of basic geometric shapes (circle, triangle and square) and strokes.
Everything about Warli is earthy and soothing. In addition, this art add elegance to a small hut or a room in a seven star hotel with the same charm. {There are still few things in world that are not biased yet.}

It would not be wrong to say that people of that time were intelligent and creative enough to decorate their homes using inexpensive and easily available products. These paintings, that depicts their daily routines, culture and festivals , were created using rice paste mixed with natural colors available like Turmeric etc and was painted using straws. In today’s world, this beautiful art is still with us in form of home decor and fashion symbols.

This art is attractive, really attractive. Despite being having no prior experience in this art, this time i choose it as my project and i googled about it for reference.
Results gave thousands of inspirations but most of them looked complex to me as a first timer.
Finally, i took this image as reference and started painting my canvas with some changes. The painting depicts “Tree of Life” as Trees are center of the lives of this tribe.
To know how it comes out, watch this video.

PS: Me and my husband both painted this beautiful piece of art for our home decor wall piece. He was a great help and turns out to be a great artist as well.
Appx cost of the project: Rs 400 INR
